I've been getting toxin injections in my face, head, neck and shoulders for over five years from other neurologists, including at OHSU. My previous neurologist closed her practice last year and I've been looking for someone who understands chronic migraines from head injuries, hemifacial spasm and dystonia. My husband and I met with her in December and she was compassionate, understanding of my situation. She said she understood about the constant migraines I have from multiple head injuries; the severe, painful muscle spasms I have in my face, head, neck and shoulders as well as the ice pick like geniculate neuralgia pain I have in my right ear and we agreed on the same treatment plan as my other neurologists had provided. She was pleased I provided her with the diagrams of where and how much my previous neurologist injected at each identified site. She said she would treat me with 1000 units of Dysport every ten weeks. Last Monday I had toxin injections and I don't know what personality disorder she has but the doctor who showed up was not the doctor we met in December. She asked me where I was experiencing pain and immediately began dismissing everything I said and finally demanded to know if I wanted her to treat me or not . I've been in excruciating pain for the last six weeks and I just couldn't bear to go home without toxin injections so I said yes. I'm so sorry I did. She refused to do any of the headache points within the hairline, on the sides or back of my head, the base of my skull or my neck. She did inject small amounts of Dysport in my forehead, two small amounts in my right temporalis muscle and one on the left as well as two small amounts in my right jaw muscle and one on the left. She did three points around my right eye but not correctly. Three days later my eye is drooping further closed then when I went in. She has absolutely no understanding of hemifacial spasm even though she said she could address it when we met in December. Even though in December she agreed to treat around my right ear, she refused to do any injections either in front, above or behind my ear. She did a couple of small injections in my neck and shoulders but that was the extent of it and when she was finished she announced she used more toxin than she usually does. I tried to get her to listen to me but she became angry and told me to quit talking. I was crying and using a Kleenex to wipe my nose and she angrily told me to stop touching my face even though she wasn't doing any injections near my nose. She continued berating me when she was finished. I was sobbing and then she told me I could make another appointment in 90 days. I reminded her that my insurance would allow treatment every ten weeks and she'd agreed to that in December but now she wouldn't do it. If she was the only doctor in the region doing toxin injections, I'd never go to her again. The kind, compassionate doctor I met in December wasn't in the building Monday and the doctor who treated me should never be allowed in a room. Yesterday I called the Corvallis Clinic to see how much Dysport they are billing my insurance and the codes they're using. I was told they're billing 1000 units even though she didn't use anywhere near that amount. Aside from my shoulders, I'm in the same excruciating pain I was in when I arrived for that appointment. The muscles in my neck and face are seized up in horrible spasms and I've had a non stop migraine since Tuesday as the spasming muscles are tightly pulling down where they attach on my skull. Dr Svoboda patently states there are no muscles on the head under the scalp but that flies in the face of all anatomical images. I know what 1000 units feels like and I'd be surprised if she used even 500 units.

  • I have been to many neurologists and contrary to the other reviews, I have had amazing care from Dr. Svoboda and her staff. I feel comfortable talking to her about what's going on and she listens and is compassionate and affirming. I have recommended a number of people to see her. I am quite happy and have no complaints of anyone in her office.
